AV MOD MATERIAL: BLEACH Ch. 548 Review

Watch your back Bill Nye. Hitsugaya is coming up on you.
Watch your back Bill Nye. Hitsugaya is coming up on you.

In the first clash between the 13 Court Guard and the Vandenreich for round two, we have Captain Toshiro Hitsugaya vs. Bazz-B. Though he doesn't have his bankai, Hitsugaya may have another trick up his sleeve to counter 'The Heat'.

The Good

They're like an adorable brother and sister team.
They're like an adorable brother and sister team.

The early 1900s poet Robert Frost once wrote a poem titled "Fire and Ice". In it, he mentions how there are differing opinions on if the world will ultimately be destroyed by either fire or ice. He chose to side with fire. If only he could have lived long enough to see how Hitsugaya uses ice to stop a force looking to destroy the world with fire. Hats off to the littlest captain for working out a system on creating more powerful form of ice attacks using the physics of thermodynamic.

With the exception of anything involving Yoruichi, the 10th Division has to be one of my favorites inBLEACH. The chemistry between Hitsugaya and Matsumoto is always a joy. I'm not the biggest advocate for spin-offs, but I'd love to see more of this duo more often.

The Bad

Why not tell him your weakness while you're at it?
Why not tell him your weakness while you're at it?

Let's put aside for a second the wisdom of explaining in detail the system of your attacks to an enemy out to kill you and your way of life for just a second. Though, that is really stupid. I'm not sure Kubo does a very good job in explaining how this vacuum-ice is created. Maybe he should have used a graph. It's possible this may be an issue of translation, but I doubt it.

If you're still scratching your heads on how this works. I'd suggest looking up how vacuum-insulated windows work. I'm guessing it's built along that concept then multiplied.

Verdict 4/5

We're given some pretty cool action, funny moments, and the pace seems surprisingly quick out of BLEACH this week. That being said, the ending of this chapter is a touch perplexing. I almost find it too hard to believe that Bazz-B has already been taken down. I'd enjoy this being a solid and swift victory, but I can't shake this feeling that Bazz-B will rise again next week. Guess we'll just have to wait and see. Those issues aside, this is a chapter that more than suffices.
